10-Year-Old Girl With Autism Stuns the World With Her Amazing Cover of ‘Hallelujah’
A 10-year-old girl from Northern Ireland has amazed people all over the world with her heartwarming rendition of “Hallelujah.”
Kaylee Rodgers, a student with ADHD and autism, had the honor of singing the solo of Leonard Cohen’s famous song, “Hallelujah.” Rodgers performed the song during the Killard House School’s concert, and shortly after the event, a recording of the performance went viral.
Singing has really helped Rodgers come into her own, as the 10-year-old is normally pretty shy.
“She’d be a very quiet little girl, but when she sings, she just opens up,” head teacher Colin Millar told BBCNewsbeat.
The National Autistic Society shares that autism can “affect how a person communicates and relates to other people.” Singing has really opened the door for Rodgers, improving her communication skills.
Rodgers’ mother, Tracey, shared that her music teacher, Lloyd Scates, has really helped her daughter develop her singing voice and strengthen her talent.
“She always loved singing, but it wasn’t until she started at Killard House School that she really came into her own,” Tracy Rodgers said to BBCNewsbeat. “He’s like her safety blanket – he’s amazing.”
The video has been seen across the world and has wowed many viewers.
“The fantastic thing about this video is that it’s not just good because she’s 10. And it’s not just good because she’s dealing with autism and ADHD. It’s good because it’s good – really good. Sensational in fact,” one commenter wrote on YouTube.
“Wow! What a talented young lady. Beautiful song,” another wrote on Facebook.
For Rodgers, it doesn’t look like the singing is going to stop anytime soon.
“It was really amazing how many views I got,” Rodgers said to ITV. “I just loved doing it.”
