The parents, as opposed to their kids, are the ones in trouble this time — and it wouldn’t be the first time!
In Texas, Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz and her husband Jason were dropping their daughter off at day care when she noticed a note posted on the door telling parents, “Get off your phone!!!!”
She snapped a photo of the sign and posted it on Facebook on January 27. It’s been shared over a million times with plenty of divisive reactions about how parents should pay more attention to their children.
“Your child is happy to see you! Are you happy to see your child??” read the sign.
Workers of the child care center expressed their dismay for parents glued to their phones while picking up their little bundles of joy.
Many Facebook users scolded the day care for meddling in the affairs of their paying customers. But other people agreed with the day care for looking after the children in their facility. The post has been liked nearly 100,000 times as of February 2.
“I thought it was a valid reminder to parents to be aware and attentive to their child or children,” Coley Sloan Jones, a mother of a stepchild who attends the facility, told ABC News. Jones thinks even phone calls can wait, but understands exceptions must be made in some situations.
And yesterday the center updated their sign to be a bit “nicer.”
“I haven’t seen anyone on their phones, so I think that it’s definitely made an impact,” Mazurkewicz told Your Daily Dish. “I think that it’s a good reminder to all of us to make more of an effort to focus on what is important, whether it’s the kids, our partners, or our friends and family! I don’t think that anyone is immune to it.”
