Bride Surprises Grandmother by Wearing Her Wedding Dress on Her Big Day
When this 32-year-old was getting married, she found the perfect way to honor her grandmother on her special day.
Jordyn Cleverly had spent a long time looking for an amazing, vintage wedding dress. Cleverly kept falling short and could not find the dress of her dreams. After a long and tiring search, she realized she was looking in the wrong place and could just wear her grandmother’s wedding dress.
“After our engagement, I tried on a couple of dresses at like a local wedding dress shop and I just couldn’t find anything that had the style, that antique vintage style that I was looking for,” Cleverly said to Inside Edition.
Cleverly kept the whole idea a secret from her 74-year-old grandmother. She then arranged for a big reveal with her grandmother at the rehearsal dinner, just two days before the wedding.
“I told her it was a small family photo shoot with my parents and grandparents because we probably wouldn’t have enough time to do it the day of the wedding,” Cleverly said to Inside Edition. “I didn’t want her to see it for the first time walking down the aisle and just start sobbing and all those memories come back to her.”
Cleverly’s grandmother, Penny Jensen, was planning on donating the dress when Cleverly decided to try it on for fun.
“I went and tried it on and it was actually maybe a size or two too big and so I contacted a local seamstress to see if there was anything we could do with it and she said, ‘Absolutely, it’s in fantastic shape,'” Cleverly said to Inside Edition. “[My grandma] had zero idea; she had no idea it was even in my possession.”
For Jensen, the moment was incredibly memorable because her granddaughter was following in her footsteps and marrying her high school sweetheart, just like she did.
“She was just speechless,” Cleverly said to Inside Edition. “I kind of blacked out for a second because it was such an emotional rollercoaster. All I heard her saying in the back was, ‘Wow, wow, wow.’ I finally went up and hugged her and she whispered in my ear, “I married my high school sweetheart in this dress and so will you.”
Cleverly plans to keep the dress in her family for years to come. Seems like this is the start of a great family tradition! Check out the video below.
