Johnny Depp Could Face 10 Years in Prison
Johnny Depp could face up to 10 years in prison for illegally bringing his dogs – Yorkshire terries, Pistol and Boo – into Australia without proper documentation earlier this month.
Depp, who is currently in Australia filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, brought his two furry friends along on his private jet, but was told by the country’s minister of agriculture to get his pups back to the U.S. within 50 hours or they would be euthanized.
According to multiple sources, an Australian senate committee was told on Monday that if the case goes to court, Depp could face up to 10 years in prison, or a maximum fine of AU$340,000 (over $263,000 in U.S. dollars), and the pilot of his plane could also face jail time as well.
Officials are not taking this lightly, and the actor is definitely not receiving the special star treatment he’s accustomed to. “There’s a process, you get the permits, they go into quarantine, then you can have them,” said Australia’s Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce. “If we started letting movie stars, even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice, to come into our nation, why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?”
But don’t worry, the pups are safe and sound after Depp’s wife, Amber Heard, brought them back home to California.
