A cab driver never knows who the passenger will be that flags him down. Every once in awhile, a famous person hops in unbeknownst to the driver.
On January 20 in Washington, D.C., a cabbie got a candid camera style surprise when it was revealed that his favorite NFL star quarterback John Elway, the current Denver Broncos General Manager, was one of the passengers in the back seat of his car.
Elway was in town with his wife Paige to attend the inauguration when driver Sam Snow was hailed to pick them up along with friends Glenn and Mindy Stearns. Glenn Stearns, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and friend of Elway’s who was sitting shotgun, posted the video to Facebook.
The video went viral with 541,962 views, 4,293 shares, and over 4,000 likes as of January 23.
In the video, Snow has no idea yet that Elway is in his cab. A light-hearted exchange about his favorite all-time quarterback begins when Stearns’ wife Mindy, a former entertainment reporter for KTLA, questions from the backseat, “So you think John Elway is number one?”
Snow answered, “Number one.”
The camera pans to Elway getting a kick out of the whole exchange. Mindy Stearns asks Snow if he would sleep with Elway, and Snow responds, “I don’t roll like that.”
“He was the only cabbie inside the perimeter in D.C.,” Sterns wrote to Your Daily Dish. “They were strictly not permitted to pick anyone up from that area because of swearing in, crowds and security. A D.C. bicycle police officer flagged Sam down and made an exception because it was John Elway.”
Mindy Stearns decides to give up the ruse and asks, “Would you know John Elway if you saw him?”
Snow definitively replies, “Oh yeah!”
When she asks him to turn around for the reveal, Elway casually says, “How you doin’ man?”
“Come on man, it’s John Elway,” Snow says. “I gotta take a picture man, serious! Serious, when we get out can we take a picture together man? But you gotta take your shades off.”
Elway grabs his hand and greets him.
Snow continues the trip shocked that he just met his favorite quarterback. He even offered to give them the ride for free pushing the Broncos legend to taking pictures with him to show off to his friends. Turns out it was a match made in football heaven as Snow was a bonafide fan, sporting Super Bowl patches on his jacket to the delight of the former two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback.
Despite citing his favorite team as the Pittsburgh Steelers, he goaded to the Hall of Famer like they were old friends for beating his beloved home team in the playoffs.
Snow did get a photo with Elway at the end of the ride.
