60 years after their first date, these high school sweethearts have finally made it official.
Joyce Kevorkian and Jim Bowman first dated during their junior and senior year of high school back in the 1950s. When the couple graduated, they went their separate ways and lost touch.
During their time apart, they both got married to people they met in college and had long, fulfilling marriages.
Both of their spouses have now passed away which gave Bowman a new idea. Bowman called up Kevorkian and asked her to help plan their high school reunion.
“Our spouses were both adversely affected by strokes,” Bowman told ABC News.
The pair was constantly on the phone chatting about plans and eventually Bowman worked up the courage to come and visit Kevorkian.
“My grandma had been very sad since my grandpa passed away five years ago, but when she started talking to Jim, she turned back into her old self,” Anna Harris, Kevorkian’s granddaughter told the Huffington Post. “When I’d call her up, she had a lot of things she wanted to tell me about her life ― she had things to look forward to again.”
The visit eventually led up to a marriage proposal and the lovely couple made it official on April 1.
“It was a really heartwarming ceremony,” Harris told The Huffington Post. “The best man and maid of honor (me!) gave little speeches and then the two lovebirds left for their honeymoon.”
Since rekindling with Bowman, Kevorkian’s giddy personality has returned.
“It’s almost like she is 17 again. When Jim proposed, she didn’t hesitate one bit and she has been so, so happy ever since,” Harris told Huffington Post. “To me, Jim isn’t really replacing my grandpa, he’s giving me my grandma back.”
Harris shared the pictures of her grandmother’s wedding on Twitter where they quickly went viral. The story was even shared on popular Facebook page Love What Matters, where people commented on just how sweet their love story truly is.

“What a beautiful story. Just proof that it’s never too late for love!” shared one user.
“It’s never too late to live happily ever after,” wrote another.
It’s a love story that’s one-of-a-kind.
“It was just a really sweet wedding,” Harris told ABC News. “The best part is just how happy they both are. They’re both talking about what they are going to do in the future. When you watch them it’s like two high schoolers that just started dating. It’s really nice.”
