Even if there wasn’t a guardian angel out there that day, this mom’s quick thinking likely saved her child’s life. And she is making national headlines because of it.
According to a report from News Channel 25, Jennifer Duncan and her baby were knocked off a 30-foot bridge after a fender-bender. Duncan said she just instinctively cradled her baby, bringing her knees up toward her chest, to help shield the baby as best she could from the dangerous fall. Duncan sustained multiple injuries, but her baby, just a scratch. Watch:

“I just tried to grab as tight as I can to him,” the soft-spoken, Waco, Texas native told New Channel 25. “Keeping him safe was my main concern. I kind of brought my knees up over him and my arms around his head.”
As News Channel 25 described it, the “human cocoon” Duncan made did enough to save her baby’s life, but ended up costing Duncan much. Duncan fractured her back nine times, had fractures in both her legs (which resulted in one leg having to be amputated), broke her pelvis and ribs. The injuries kept Duncan in the hospital for two months, and she’ll need a prosthetic leg to be able to walk again.
But it’s her baby that keeps her going on her road to recovery.
“I don’t give up because I know he’s looking at me to be his role model. So, I try not to give up.”
To help assist with hospital bills, Duncan has set up a GoFundMe page, which has raised over $16,000 as of January 12. But the hospital bills seemed to have racked up quickly in the months Duncan spent in hospital care. The GoFundMe has a campaign goal of $750,000, and she could sure use your help.
