Canadian Jay Haskin is using Facebook to try and locate the brother he’s never met.
The Calgary man took to Facebook on February 12 with a photo of himself holding a sign that read, “My name is Jay Haskin. I’m looking for my brother. He was born November 30, 1978 at Surgeon General Hospital in St. Albert. His name at birth was Keith Darcy. He was given up for adoption and I’m trying to find him.”
The photo was accompanied by a caption that further elaborated on Haskin’s story. “SoI have a brother ive (sic) never met. He was given up for adoption long before I was born. Ive seen alot (sic) of these posts on facebook and Ii figured why not try one. I mean best case scenario, I’ll meet my brother one day. If everyone could share this post. Get it out there and hopefully it’ll reach him. I’d appreciate it alot. (sic) Thank you. Our mothers name was Lynn Underwood and his fathers name was Brent Boyer on birth certificate,” he wrote.
Haskin told The Huffington Post that his desire to reunite with his brother came from watching his own children play.
“I saw [my children] playing together and realized I’d never have memories like that with Keith, but I could still have memories if I actually found him.”
The post has steadily built up steam in the weeks since it was published. As of February 24, the post has been shared over 28,000 times.
“I’m remaining hopeful because 27,000 shares is enough to make a guy believe in miracles,” Haskin wrote on Facebook Tuesday according to The Huffington Post.
Haskin further elaborated on the reaction the post has gotten exclusively to Your Daily Dish, writing, “…its been quite a surreal experience. At first it was just shares and likes on Facebook but now that its gotten media attention its almost undescribable. (sic) There is so many people in the world who care about family that it really is heart warming the response this has generated.”
Jay Haskin isn’t alone is his journey in his home country. The Adoption Council of Canada has an entire subsection of their website dedicated to family members who are searching for and looking to reunite with adopted relatives.
Haskin’s search has yet to yield results, but he’s not giving up hope. “Unfortunately at this time I havent (sic) had any substantial leads on to keiths (sic) whereabouts but im (sic) confident it will happen.”
Please take a moment and share this article on social media to try and help Jay Haskin find his brother as soon as possible.
