J.J. Abrams Releases Secret Trailer for ’10 Cloverfield Lane’
Oh J.J Abrams, you’ve done it again!
Abrams somehow managed to secretly produce a movie related to the 2008 film Cloverfield, in-between all this Star Wars madness.
A trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane premiered last night during the screening of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. While the film is not a direct sequel to Cloverfield, Abrams is calling it a “blood relative.”
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible,” Paramount said in a statement to HitFix.
Abrams has pulled this surprise off once before. In 2008 a similar preview premiered for Cloverfield in front of Michael Bay’s Transformers. That trailer came without a title, but left audience members with theories and speculations only to be answered after the movie was released.
10 Cloverfield Lane, originally titled Valencia and also The Cellar, stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. While the trailer doesn’t explain much plot wise, Winstead shared some details in a recent interview with Variety:
“The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.”
On the plus side, audiences will not have to wait long to see the film. The film hit theaters on March 11. Check out the eerie trailer below.
