This Island Resort Can Be Yours for $49

There have been entire towns and even castles for sale, but this is the first time we’ve seen an entire island resort for sale, and for such a low price. Australian couple Doug and Sally Beitz started Kosrae Nautilus Resort in Micronesia 24 years ago, but now they’re putting it up for sale and rather than sell it to the highest bidder, they’re raffling it off for the low price of $49 a ticket, according to ABC News.

The couple raised their four sons on the island and now seek to retire to their native Australia to be with their grandchildren. The idea for the raffle came about when they decided they wanted to find someone to take over their life’s work who would respect the environment.

“We wanted to make our resort affordable for everyone,” Doug Beitz told ABC. “While we are sad to part with it, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make someone’s dreams come true.”

The couple’s goal is to sell 50,000 tickets, but if fewer than 50,000 tickets are sold, then the winner will win money in the amount of 50 percent of the total sales of tickets sold.

However, that most likely won’t happen. The couple’s son, Adam Beitz, told ABC, “We’ve had to upgrade a (sic) servers twice due to the volume of traffic has caused our site to crash. We’re well on track to hit the 50,000. Splitting the winnings isn’t an option now, someone will definitely win the hotel and have their life forever changed.”

With 50,000 tickets sold, the couple will get at least $2,450,000 for the resort, according to Huffington Post Australia.

In order to enter to win the resort, you must be over 21 and can choose from four packages. The cheapest option is to buy a single $49 ticket, but you can also buy the Couple’s Pack, three tickets for $129, or the Hero Pack, five tickets for $199, or the executive pack, 10 tickets for $349.

There are 16 rooms total in the resort, 10 of which are booked through August 2017.

The couple also told the Huffington Post that the staff will do most of the work.

“We are confident if the winner is able to listen and watch what is going on, and not make big changes overnight, the staff will continue to do 95 percent of the work,” Doug Beitz said.

Sounds good to me! The winner will be chosen July 26.
