Idris Elba Takes Ex-Girlfriend to BAFTA TV Awards
Idris Elba reunited with his ex-girlfriend on Sunday when they walked the red carpet together at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) TV Awards.
The British star and Naiyana Garth, the mother of his 23-month-old son, Winston, reportedly called it quits after three years of dating in February, when reports suggested Elba had moved out of the London home they shared together and into a nearby apartment.
However, the two seemingly suggested they had reconciled after attending the BAFTA TV Awards together at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Elba happily posed for photos on the red carpet as he wrapped his arm around the make-up artist in front of the snappers.
The outing is the couple’s first public appearance this year. In January, Elba was joined by his 14-year-old daughter Isan, his child with ex-wife Dormowa Sherman, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, where he won two trophies for his roles in Beasts of No Nation and Luther.
However, Elba’s luck didn’t hold over at the BAFTA TV Awards, where he lost the Leading Actor prize for Luther to Wolf Hall’s Mark Rylance, who won an Oscar and a BAFTA Film award for Bridge of Spies earlier this year.
The loss was a bit of a relief for Elba, who told BAFTA red carpet reporters that he had lost his voice over the past few days, admitting with a gravelly tone, “I’m a bit nervous if I did win, I won’t have much to say.”
Elba later took the stage to present the award for Female Performance in a Comedy Program, joking with the crowd, “I’ve lost my voice so bear with me, I’m not drunk, I promise.”
