As Hurricane Harvey has devastated Texas over the past several days, numerous stories of courage and heroism have come out of Mother Nature’s horror, including stories of people risking their lives to rescue dogs that were caught in the storm.
The photos, first shared by Facebook user Dominic Dyer, show several animal rescues occurring in the flooded Texas streets.
One shows a woman carrying an adorable pooch above her shoulders through flood waters that appear at least a foot high at the time the photo was taken.
The next photo is even more harrowing, showing a group of four men guiding a boat with, according to Facebook, 21 dogs through a deluge of near-waist deep water. The image was later sent into the Love What Matters Facebook page from the dogs’ apparent owner Betty Walters, and quickly went viral.
As of August 30, the photo has amassed over 112,000 likes, and been shared over 45,000 times across Facebook.
With all the devastation Harvey has already wrought – and is continuing to bring – this small story is a reminder that even in the worst of circumstances, the best of humanity can still shine through.
