Actor Henry Cavill on Monday gave fans a tantalizing peek into the upcoming Justice League film.
Cavill, who plays Superman in the DC Comics film universe, shared an image on his Instagram account of an all-black Superman suit, in the same vein as the suit the superhero wore in the 1993 “Return of Superman” storyline that followed the highly-acclaimed “Death of Superman” event where the Kryptonian fell at the hands of the villain Doomsday.
The image shows the black suit’s similarity to Superman’s iconic red and blue one in the movies, with small “Kyrptonian” symbols laced into the material. Cavill captioned the image simply, “#Superman.”
According to Nerdist, the black suit in the comic books was a “regeneration outfit, which drew solar energy to slowly bring Kal-El [Superman] back to the land of the living.”
Cavill’s Superman “died” at the hands of Doomsday earlier this year in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the final scene revealed dirt lifting off Superman’s coffin just before cutting to the credits. So, there was little speculation as to whether the hero was actually dead, and more curiosity surrounding when exactly he would make his return, either in Justice League, or the currently untitled “Justice League 2.”
Justice League and presumably Superman’s black suit will hit theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
