One lucky grandmother got to meet her 86th grandchild on her 86th birthday.
Yes, you read that right! 86 grandchildren!
To Marie Frey, having a big family was always pretty normal. Frey was one of seven siblings and gave birth to 15 children of her own. Currently, she has 68 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her latest grandchild, Blakely Grace, was born on June 23.
“It was something special. I don’t think there are many people that can say they have their 86th great-grandchild on their 86th birthday. They’re all special but that’s just a record,” she shared with Today.
Frey almost gave up on the idea of having a big family when she almost became a nun. However, she decided to follow her passion for dance, which lead her to meet her husband Gerald.
“I was working for someone at the time that said I’d either be a nun or get married and have a bunch of kids. They weren’t wrong when they said I’d be having a lot of kids,” she said.
Frey met her husband during an Independence Day dance. The couple got married two years after they met and stayed together for about 60 years until Frey’s husband passed away at the age of 83.
“I thought about having a large family, but I didn’t figure it’d be this large,” Frey said. “I don’t regret any of it. They all turned out great. They all take care of themselves, so I’m pretty proud.”
And it doesn’t look like Frey is stopping with 86 grandchildren, as two more great-grandchildren are currently on the way!
