George R.R. Martin Says ‘Game of Thrones’ Movie Will Be Made
UPDATE: Game of Thrones movie? “Nonsense” said author George R.R. Martin in a blog post Wednesday afternoon. Sooooo, probably not happening, but never say never.
The man behind the sprawling, tantalizingly addictive Game of Thrones series revealed this week that HBO showrunners are working on a movie.
The announcement was reportedly made during an Emmy’s afterparty, the same night the HBO smash won the award for Best Drama Series.
The Daily Star was told by Martin, “There will be a movie, but I will not be involved.”
He continued, “I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the [sic] D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do. The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”
Martin, of course, was referring to the impending sixth book of the series, The Winds of Winter, which many fans are hoping (finally) is published this year, or at least prior to the sixth season of the show premiering on HBO next spring.
The Daily Mail report claims the film would likely be a prequel, offering the possibility for characters who have died to make a return, but HBO executives “aren’t able to comment” on the report at this time.
