‘Game of Thrones’ Is 2015’s Most Pirated TV Show
Game of Thrones has been named the most pirated TV show for a fourth consecutive year.
The popular fantasy series, which stars Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage, took the title again in 2015 after wracking up more than 14.4 million illegal downloads over the last 12 months, according to TorrentFreak.com.
Game of Thrones also topped the list in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The second most pirated show of 2015 was The Walking Dead, with around 6.9 million illegal downloads, followed by The Big Bang Theory at three with 4.4 million.
The top five is rounded out by Arrow and The Flash at four and five respectively.
Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay Bolton in the show, previously urged fans to stop illegally downloading episodes, because online piracy could have serious consequences for the TV industry.
“The production values are extremely high and if this continues they won’t be able to do it because there’ll be no point if everyone’s watching for free,” he said. “So then the standard of the show will drop massively, everything will get worse and it’ll just be really sad. I think it’s a terrible thing.”
