Pit Bull Rescue Dog Saved From Alleged ‘Crack House’ Becomes Official Firehouse Dog
Rescue dog Ashley was saved from an abandoned “crack house” in Staten Island, New York and found sanctuary with the “Fort Pitt” firefighters in the Lower East Side.
In early January, Erica Mahnken and her fiance Michael Favor — animal rescuing power couple — got a call to find a malnourished, underweight, 1-year-old pit covered in cigarette burns.
“We just ran and got her and said we’ll figure out what we were going to do after we got her out of there,” Mahnken, co-founder of No More Pain Rescue, told CBS News.
They didn’t have a place for Ashley to stay so they called up friends of theirs at the FDNY station referred to as Fort Pitt. The firefighters there took in the pit bull on January.
Three days later, the firefighter begged the rescue team to allow them to adopt her, according to InsideEdition.
Now, the rescue dog, named Ashley (but “Ash” for short) by the firefighters, is healthy and happily living her life as an official firehouse dog — as seen on her now-popular Instagram account.
“Whenever she’s there her tail is wagging, she’s super friendly and jumping on everybody,” Mahnken said to CBS News. “She’s really loveable.”
