The trailer for Disney’s newest animated film Moana is finally here. The film first made headlines last year when it was announced that Moana would be voiced by a young woman of color and native Hawaiian, Auli’i Cravalho, who was selected from thousands of other girls.
Dwayne Johnson plays Maui, a demigod, who we see recounting tales of his victorious past in the trailer. Moana, however, is unimpressed.
Set 2,000 years ago, the story ultimately centers on Moana’s journey across the South Pacific to complete her ancestors’ unfinished quest.
The film also features original music by Opetaia Foa’i, Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Lion King composer Mark Mancina.
Catch the movie in theaters November 23.
