On Monday, Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment dropped the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to one of science fiction’s most beloved films, Bladerunner.
The teaser for Bladerunner 2049 offers little, showing a cautious Ryan Gosling entering a seemingly abandoned house where he finds Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), the replicant detective from the original film. It does reveal that Gosling now does Deckard’s job, but as Gosling states, “Things were simpler then.”
Entertainment Weekly received an official synopsis from Alcon Entertainment, which read:
“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
Along with Ford and Gosling, Bladerunner 2049 stars Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, and Lennie James. The movie is helmed by the director of Sicario and Arrival, Denis Villeneuve.
Bladerunner 2049 hits theaters on October 7 next year.
