Federal Judge Rules In Favor Of Tom Brady; Suspension Nullified
After months of legal wrangling, a federal judge has ruled in favor of Tom Brady, nullifying a four-game suspension NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had placed on the star quarterback for his involvement in what has become known as the “deflate-gate” scandal.
Federal Judge Richard Berman announced the ruling early Thursday morning after a multitude of hearings and meetings between the New England Patriots quarterback, the NFL Players Association, and Goodell.
Goodell, after a 243-page report from New York lawyer Ted Wells, upheld his original decision to suspend Brady four games at the start of the 2015 season for his alleged involvement in the scandal, where the Patriots’ MVP was accused of knowingly using under-inflated footballs in last January’s AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Wells report came to the conclusion that it was “more probable than not” that Brady was “generally aware” the game balls in the championship game were under-inflated. That shaky reasoning seemed to be enough for Goodell to stand by his original decision.
Brady appealed, which lead the case into federal court for Judge Berman to decide.
