Deadpool has been a massive success at the box office and fans have been very adamant about seeing more of the “Merc with a Mouth.” The fans have been so persistent, they have even started a petition for the character to host or make a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Yes, you read that right. Fans want Deadpool to come and host the comedy show not as Ryan Reynolds, but as the R-rated superhero. A petition has started on change.org and has already garnered tens of thousands of signatures.
The petition was started by a mega Deadpool fan who believes this is just what SNL needs in order to be a hit.
“I have not watched a full episode of SNL in years because I just haven’t been able to stomach an entire episode, but having Deadpool host, star, and be all over the episode would get the DVR set so I can watch it again and again,” shared Deadpool fan Andrew Stege.
It’s a long shot that the petition actually works since the majority of SNL host are real people. It may be a more of an attainable goal to have Reynolds host, yet the tone of Wade Wilson’s jokes may have to be toned down a bit, even for SNL.
SNL has been open to fans suggesting hosts in the past. In 2010, Betty White hosted the show after a Facebook group of more than 500,000 members suggested her for the coveted position.
As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had amassed over 36,000 signatures and a new goal of 50,000 had been set. While the petition may be a stretch, the screenwriters are unofficially prepping for a Deadpool sequel.
Deadpool is currently playing in theaters.
