Family of Lost Dog Makes Shocking Find After Month Search
Imagine losing your beloved pet. Imagine searching for it for a month with no success. John and Cindy Billesberger of Saskatchewan, Canada, experienced this firsthand after they couldn’t find Bruno, their labrador retriever.
Bruno had been missing for a month and the family had begun to accept that he would never be coming back. After searching for him everywhere they expected him to be dead, but found nothing. Then, one day, one of their dogs became fixed on a particular spot on their neighbor’s property. When John went to investigate, he was shocked to find a four-foot-wide, ten-foot-deep hole.
At the very bottom of the hole, still alive, was Bruno.
Billesberger figured the hole had been dug for the purpose of making a well, but it had never been finished. He couldn’t believe Bruno was still alive, but he acted quickly to save him. He instructed his son to tie a rope around his own waist, and then he climbed down into the well, lifting Bruno out before getting out himself.
Bruno was in horrible shape. The dog had cuts and sores all over his body, and the pads of his paws worn off from trying to climb out. He couldn’t even bark.
Knowing they had little time to save his life, the Billesbergers drove their dog to a vet in Estevan. The vets there quickly hooked Bruno up to IVs before treating his injuries. One vet determined that if he had to fall somewhere, it was better that it was a well, as Bruno was no doubt able to sustain himself by drinking the little water available.
Bruno was found to be anemic, malnourished, and dehydrated, but he is in recovery, and has already shown the Billesbergers signs of returning to his old self. Thankfully, they had found the resilient dog before it was too late.
