The Most Expensive and Cheapest Places to Get Married Across the Country
Wedding season is rapidly approaching and with it couples are spending more than ever on the big day. The Knot released their annual real weddings survey, which asked about 18,000 U.S. brides and grooms who married in 2015 about their wedding costs.
Not surprisingly, Manhattan is the most expensive place to get married in the country, with the average cost of a wedding being $82,299. The entire East Coast also racks up most of the expensive places as a wedding can range from about $50-$80,000.
Alaska drops in as the cheapest place to get married, costing $17,361 on average.
ATTN created this map to showcase the data.
Even though the survey reports the costs of weddings have increased by $5,500 in the past five years, the number of guests have gone down. On average, people have around only 139 guests. However, people spend more per guest than they used to, suggesting that “couples are spending more on the guest experience.”
The cost of the dress also adds to the overall wedding cost. Brides in the New York metro area spend the most on dresses – about $2,710. Montana and North Dakota, however, spend only $967 and $990, respectively.
Marrying age has also increased. Manhattan brides are some the oldest brides at 32.8 years of age, while South Dakota and Idaho have the youngest brides at 26 and 26.1 years, respectively.
The Knot made this handy chart that illustrates the breakdown of wedding costs by category.
No wonder weddings cost so much. Until then, we’ll just be taking it easy…
