The real Donald Trump may have won the New Hampshire primary last night, but Johnny Depp’s portrayal of him has won the Internet on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Funny or Die released a 50-minute biopic of Donald Trump called, The Art of the Deal: The Movie. The parody film has drawn some serious star power, with Johnny Depp as Donald Trump, along with Alfred Molina, Michaela Watkins, Jacob Tremblay, Patton Oswalt, Jack McBrayer, Kristen Schaal, and Andy Richter.
Taking the same title from the 1988 Trump autobiography, the parody has taken months to complete and Funny or Die’s founder Adam McKay couldn’t be happier on how the movie turned out.
In an interview with the New York Times, McKay stated, “It was a crazy, completely nuts idea that somehow we pulled off.”
Funny or Die Editor-in-Chief Owen Burke echoed McKay’s sentiment.
“The plan was to move really fast because we thought Trump would go away, at least as a presidential candidate,” said Burke. “When he bizarrely didn’t go away, we had a little more time. But that meant keeping the secret for longer.”
The parody was directed by Jeremy Konner, who is best known for creating the show Drunk History.
The parody details Trump’s journey from childhood to the Oval Office. Depp’s performance in the parody is being described as “absolutely bananas.”
