How many people can honestly say they like their boss, or are happy with the minimum wage? Folks at Gravity Payments, where CEO Dan Price calls his employees team members, are smiling all the way to the bank.
On April 13, 2015, Price forever changed their lives by gifting his 120 employees with a $70,000 pay raise right out of his own pocket by reducing his own salary. A year later, they needed the ultimate way to say thank you for all the sacrifices he made. The question they probably pondered was what do you get a man who has everything? Why a brand new Tesla, of course!
Chipping in their hard-earned money, two employees drove the new car from the dealership in Seattle, surprising Price with this priceless gift including vanity plates that read, “Gravity.”
The surprise unveiling was all caught on tape. Price is visibly shocked as he is taken into the parking lot by his team. The best part is the surprise in the trunk. Watch the video, which has gone viral with over 1.4 million hits and counting.
Price literally is the boss that rocks. A former band member, he toured with his high school rock band in Idaho and played the coffee shop circuit. Obviously he had a mind for business. Noticing a shop owner wasn’t exactly savvy about credit card processing he helped her with her gift and loyalty systems, and in return she spread the word to her friends. Partnering with his brother, Gravity Payments was born in 2004 whose motto still stands, “We exist to stand with the little gal or guy who believes in the American dream and is willing to work to chase it.”
No doubt to the employees of Gravity Payments, Price is their dream boss. As a result of doing what he feels is right for the well-being of his team, Gravity’s employee turnover numbers are at an all-time company low since the 70K decision.
