If you are looking for a little gym inspiration, look no further than 94-year-old Edna Shepherd.
Shepherd doesn’t let her age get in the way of her love for physical fitness. The 94-year-old attends 10 different gym classes each week, only taking Thursdays off.
“I’m always on the go, I don’t like sitting around,” she told Australian News Station 7 in Sydney.
The great-grandmother has always had a love for being active. Before becoming a gym nerd, she taught dance classes.
During her busy week at the gym, Shepherd takes aqua aerobics, ballroom dancing, tai chi, and Zumba.
Besides the physical aspect, Shepherd also enjoys socializing at the gym – especially chatting up the men.
“I like hugging the men, I’m a naughty girl,” Shepherd said to Australian News Station 7 in Sydney.
According to a study done by the National Cancer Institute, “people who engaged in leisure-time physical activity had life expectancy gains of as much as 4.5 years.”
“Our findings highlight the important contribution that leisure-time physical activity in adulthood can make to longevity,” said study author Steven Moore, Ph.D., of NCI’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, and lead author of the study. “Regular exercise extended the lives in every group that we examined in our study — normal weight, overweight, or obese.”
So, besides keeping active, what is the secret to the longevity that Edna Shepherd has?
“Eat properly,” she said Australian News Station 7 News Sydney.
Looks like you have no excuses now young people! Get moving!
