One Tweet Perfectly Puts Into Context Donald Trump’s Person of the Year Award

In addition to being elected as the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump can now claim one more title from 2016 — Time’s Person of the Year.

The announcement was made early Wednesday morning on the Today show.

“To be on the cover of Time as Person of the Year is a tremendous honor,” Trump told the Today show in an interview after the reveal.

The President-elect overcame several other finalists — including Hillary Clinton and Simone Biles — to nab Time’s coveted annual title.

It wasn’t a major shock for Trump to get the prestigious honor, as numerous past presidents — including Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama — were also named by the magazine as the Person of the Year. However, as Twitter user @EveryTrumpFan points out, past recipients of the award also included some less desirable people.

Yes, Adolf Hitler was a previous Person of the Year, as was Joseph Stalin and Ayatollah Khomeini.

It’s a reminder naming Trump as the Person of the Year does not automatically imply that he was the best person of the year. As Time describes the honor, “[It’s] the person who had the greatest influence, for better or for worse, on the events of the year.”

For better or for worse…that’s something that will certainly be debatable.
