Legendary Journalist Reminds Trump Of The Dangers Of Anti-Muslim Rhetoric
The never-ending news cycle shows no sign of slowing down its coverage of Republican presidential hopeful and provocateur, Donald Trump. His most recent comments proposing a ban on all Muslims from entering the United States as tourists or immigrants, has riled up not only the media, but his own party as well.
Veteran newsman Tom Brokaw was just one who had harsh words for Trump’s most recent idea.
In a report on NBC News, Brokaw said, “Trump’s statements, even in a season of extremes, is a dangerous proposal that overrides history, the law, and the foundation of American itself.” He then shared how in his lifetime alone, Americans have been witness to “paranoia over reason.”
History often remembers the German concentration camps for the Jews during World War II, but people often forget or overlook America’s own not-s0-pretty part in denying their own citizens civil rights. Japanese Americans were also herded into internment camps, losing their livelihoods and their very basic freedoms.
Brokaw goes on to speak of Joseph McCarthy and his Communist witch-hunts and the fight of African Americans just to be treated equally. He warns that ISIS, the terrorist organization behind last month’s Paris attacks and who inspired the recent shooting in San Bernardino, is likely to use Trump’s inflammatory and hate-filled speeches as a very effective recruiting tool.

Today also marks the second newspaper cover in a row where Donald Trump is compared to Hitler and Nazism.
The New York Daily News‘ cover depicts Trump beheading the Statue of Liberty, the very symbol of freedom, with a quote inspired by the famous passage by German pastor and anti-Nazi theologian, Martin Niemöller.
The Daily News updated the passage as, “When Trump came for the Mexicans, I did not speak out – as I was not a Mexican. When he came for the Muslims, I did not speak out – as I was not a Muslim. Then he came for me…” The pastor’s original text ends by saying, “And there was no one left to speak for me.”
The Daily News has not been shy using their recent covers to display their criticism of the current political landscape and current events, including a cover calling out GOP presidential candidates for their lack of initiative on gun control. Even with the backlash over his recent comments, Donald Trump has shown no signs of softening his rhetoric or backing away from his incendiary proposals. And many of his followers appear to like it that way.
Wow, what a day. So many foolish people that refuse to acknowledge the tremendous danger and uncertainty of certain people coming into U.S.
