Dad Custom Builds Room Under the Stairs Just for His Dog

We love to spoil our dogs and treat them like they’re part of the family. One man in Tampa, Florida did just that giving new meaning to the term ‘dog house’ by actually building his 6-year-old French bulldog Hennessy his own private digs.
David Maceo was inspired by the love for his pooch who is “like a son to him.” Maceo and his wife lived with David’s mother sharing a single bedroom. So before moving into their first home, Maceo wanted to “make it up to” Hennessy for his lack of privacy. Like any teenager needing their space, Hennessy got his own custom-built room.
“I felt kind of bad that we didn’t have a lot of space. So when we moved I decided to give Hennessy his own room,” Maceo told The Dodo.
Obviously having a talent as a fixer upper – Maceo turned the cavity beneath the stairs into a pup kingdom complete with photos of Hennessy and his human parents. A tribute photo to his late doggy brother Patron, who passed away a year and a half ago, also hangs on the wall.
The final touch was adding the comfy doggie bed for Hennessy (enticed of course by a snack).
“He walked in, ate it, and then laid down. He didn’t move from there for about 25 minutes,” Maceo told The Dodo.
When Maceo’s brother Al got wind of Hennessy’s “dog cave” he shared the news on Twitter, garnering over 124,000 retweets and almost 350,000 likes (as of publication). He tweeted, “My brother built his dog a separate room in his house!”

Hennessy certainly made himself right at home.
