Artist Reimagines Disney Princesses as Curvy Pin-ups

There have long been calls for Disney to give more lifelike and realistic proportions to their princess characters. Now one comic artist has taken it upon herself to redesign some of the company’s iconic characters as curvy pin-ups.

Australian illustrator Ashleigh Beevers has become well-known in recent years thanks to her Tumblr and Instagram pages, with her character designs receiving praise. Beevers’ made her first attempt at a Disney character with a reimagining of The Little Mermaid villain Ursula.

From there, she moved on to designing the company’s designated princess characters in her pin-up style to make them more relatable to women. She spoke about the project to Revelist, saying “I really just want all women to love how they look, so we can make each other feel happier and look after ourselves.”

As a companion piece to Ursula, Beevers’ took on the titular mermaid herself, Ariel.

Next up were Disney icons Belle (Beauty and the Beast) and Tinker Bell (Peter Pan).

Beevers’ didn’t limit herself to characters from last century however, as Tiana from 2009’s Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel from 2010’s Tangled also made the cut.

Disney’s Pixar films were represented as well, with Merida from the studio’s Brave.
