Director George Miller Announces He Will Not Make Another ‘Mad Max’ Movie
In rather disappointing news, George Miller, director of Mad Max: Fury Road, announced he would not be making any more Mad Max sequels in the future.
“I won’t make more Mad Max movies. Fury Road with Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. Start, stop, start again,” Miller told Page Six.
The Australian director had previously confirmed with BBC’s Top Gear that sequels were in the works. “We’ve got two more planned, but at some point in the future.”
Miller seemed to have a change of heart, explaining that the films were too complicated to make and he is not interested in investing the amount of time it would take to film.
“I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those Mad Maxes take forever. I won’t do those anymore,” Miller shared with Page Six.
Perhaps if Miller had won the Golden Globe this past Sunday he would have considered putting in the time and effort. Fury Road was nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama and Miller was nominated for Best Director, however the film walked away empty-handed.
Miller still received numerous awards for Mad Max: Fury Road. The film was named Best Film of the Year by The National Board of Review and Movie of the Year by the AFI Awards.
