There is no better illustration of man’s best friend, or should we say baby’s best friend, than Archie and a rescue dog named Nora, an English pointer from Funds For Furry Friends. Their mom, Elizabeth Spence from Winnipeg, Canada, has been documenting the inseparable twosome on Instagram.
When Nora came into the household, there were no kids in the mix. Spence says on her site that despite coming from an abusive situation her sweet and gentle nature shone through and in time she became a wonderful family dog.
Nora adds to the brood of three kids, three cats, and three dogs in the house. She tells BuzzFeed, “It can be crazy, it can be messy, it can be expensive, but we’re happy with the choices we’ve made and we love our big family.”
When Archie joined the family eight months ago, Spence noticed Nora would seek him out out all on her own. She began posting pictures mostly of their supervised communal naps. Her account has blown up close to 35,000 followers who crave to see Archie and Nora in action. Spence says she was surprised at first by all the attention they were getting. People often leave comments saying how her photos brighten their day and inspire them.
Spence has gotten creative with her posts, adding props like light sabers, baby dolls or stuffed animals, but for the most part they are candid. She says, “I could post a picture like that every day if I didn’t think it would start boring people to tears.”
Dogs spooning babies is an adorable thing to see, and somehow when it’s a rescue dog it really tugs at your heartstrings. Spence hopes these lovable photos can also carry a message about how rescuing dogs can enrich a family.
“That’s a big emphasis in our family, just loving each other and putting family first and taking care of the animals. Rescue dogs can be absolutely amazing and loving and awesome family members.”
