Thanks to a viral Facebook post, a dog named Frito is reuniting with his dog family!
In January, Corie Gemmiti wrote a post on the Texas Humane Heroes Facebook page hoping to reunite her dog, Frito, with his siblings. Gemmiti got the idea for a doggy reunion after looking at old pictures of Frito.
“I was recently going through my photos again and wondered what his siblings all looked like now and what their personalities were like and if they’d remember each other if they saw each other after almost a year and a half,” Gemmiti told People. “Then went to social media hoping someone would see my post. I never in a million years thought the story would get as big as it has and reach as many people as it has.”
Thanks to the power of social media, Gemmiti was able to reach six of Frito’s family members.
“They emailed me because I didn’t know about it and then my daughter went online and found all the information out, all the websites and everything that it had been carried on, and it was really exciting. I thought it was fun,” Margaret Sherry, who owns Frito’s mother Patty, told Texas television station KDFW.
With all of the dogs together, Gemmiti was able to see if Frito and his siblings are similar in personality and looks.
“He’s very spunky, he has a crazy little personality,” Gemmiti said to Fox News.
While Frito appeared to enjoy the reunion, it didn’t really seem like he knew he was with his family.
“I was hoping he would, but seeing them all together, I don’t really think that they can tell,” Gemmiti said to Fox News.
Overall, the dog reunion was a big success.
“The dogs didn’t seem to remember each other, but they still had a lot of fun!” Gemmiti told Your Daily Dish. “It was great for all of us who had adopted these pups to talk and hear about all of the funny personality traits each dog has. We plan to keep in touch with the other families who adopted Frito’s siblings and get together for more play dates in the future!”
The Texas Humane Heroes hope that this dog reunion will spark similar ones down the road for other dog families.
“This is something that we’ve tried in the past and it wasn’t as successful, but this one was just so widely accepted and so exciting to see that everyone was excited and everyone wanted to help find Frito’s family and it was so fun. It was just a really fun way to get a reunion going,” Texas Humane Heroes Marketing Manager Christine Rankin told Fox News.
Frito and his family plan to make the reunion a yearly tradition.
