A cop from North Carolina is reaching internet fame after his act of kindness goes viral.
Police officer Tim Purdy received a call from a local high school that was concerned about one of its students. The school reported that the student may be suicidal and also violent due to his autism.
Instead of maybe finding this situation an inconvenience and dragging the student back home, Purdy decided to sit down next to him and chat things out in order to truly help the student. Purdy even managed to get him to laugh and find him the help he needed afterwards.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shared a photo on Facebook of Purdy sitting with the distraught student. It has since received over 700,000 likes and 250,000 shares.
“There’s more to policing than making arrests and enforcing the law,” the department wrote on the post. “Sometimes taking those extra little steps makes the biggest difference in someone’s life.”
