Man Surprises His Girlfriend by Proposing With the Help of a Giraffe

When Cody Hall was planning to propose to his girlfriend, he called in a super tall friend for a little assistance.

Hall knew he had to make his proposal to his girlfriend, Makayla Blakey, extra special. In order to do that, he contacted the Dickerson Park Zoo and asked if they could be of some help. Blakey loves giraffes, and Hall thought the zoo would help him create a special moment that they could cherish forever.

The zoo was all in, and they brought in a giraffe named Mili on the big day.

“Well giraffes are her favorite animal. I consider myself to be a romantic at heart and Makayla is so special to me, I really wanted to give her something that she’ll never forget, and something we can tell our future family many years down the road,” Hall told Inside Edition.

When the big day came around, Blakey thought they were just taking a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo. Luckily, Hall’s friend works at the zoo and was able to make the special moment come to life.

“Joey [a worker at the zoo] then told us on our way to the giraffes that we’re going to watch and help with a training exercise and feeding the giraffe Mili,” Hall said to Inside Edition. “The process began by getting Mili the giraffe into a small enclosure that only exposed the top part of her head and to point at a big tennis ball on a stick with her nose and every time she did it right we would feed her.”

Hall had arranged special signals so the ring would show up at just the right time. With the help of the zookeeper, he moved the ball further away from the giraffe, exposing the ring at the perfect moment.

Once the ring was in sight, Hall quickly got down on one knee and asked the big question. Blakey didn’t even have to think twice when she said yes!

“We think Mili should be your honorary ring bearer on your big day,” the zoo wrote in a post on Facebook.
