Academy Awards host, Chris Rock, is tackling this year’s tricky Oscar ceremony one cryptic tweet at a time.
The comedian tweeted out a rather ambiguous message early Friday morning, giving a small preview to how he will tackle this year’s ceremony and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
The SNL vet tweeted out a 15-second black-and-white video with nothing but static on the screen. The tweet is accompanied by the text, “See you Sunday…#blackout #oscars.”

After the nominations were announced for the 2016 Academy Awards, many called for Rock to drop out as host to protest the fact that no actors of color were nominated for the major categories. Many celebrities including Jada Pinkett-Smith and Spike Lee, are boycotting the ceremony due to the lack of diversity.
Creed director Ryan Coogler and Ava Devurney, director of Selma, coincidentally have planned an event for Oscars night benefitting the Flint, Michigan water crisis. They claim the benefit just so happened to land on the same night as the Oscar ceremony.
The stakes are high for Rock and many are curious to see how he will tackle the diversity issue in his monologue. Rock has already thrown in some subtle jabs during his promotions for the awards.

“I think he will definitely be in the pocket,” comedian Chris Spencer, executive producer of BET’s hit reality spoof Real Husbands of Hollywood told the Los Angeles Times. “He will make some people very uncomfortable, but he will also be very, very funny.”
Tune in and see for yourself how Rock handles the situation. The 88th annual Academy Awards airs live Sunday, February 28 on ABC at 8:30 p.m.
