For Olympic athletes, the games represent the culmination of a lifetime of hard work. Just a few moments can make or break a lifelong ambition. For Chinese Olympic diver He Zi, however, those moments paid off, and she earned a place on the podium with a silver medal for the women’s 3-meter springboard.
That alone probably could have been enough for Zi to consider the day a win, but her boyfriend, Qin Kai, also a diver on the Chinese team, had something else in store for the 25-year-old.
After Zi accepted her medal, Kai got down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and asked her to marry him.
A video of the joyful moment shows Zi nodding her head yes before she covers her face with her hand and tears up. According to ABC News, Kai also gave Zi a red rose in a glass box.
The adorable couple has been dating for six years, according to NPR.
“We are dating now for over six years, and I didn’t know he would do this proposal,” Zi said, according to NPR.

Zi told reporters, according to Reuters: “I saw him during the afternoon and he seemed to be memorizing something, so I asked him, ‘What are you doing?’ and he said he was singing.”
She continued: “I’ve forgotten most of what he’s said (during the proposal), but it’s largely what you can expect like promises, but what touched me the most is that he said he was willing to be bullied by me for life.”
This is actually the second proposal so far of the 2016 Olympic games, with Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo getting engaged to her girlfriend Marjorie Enya at their medals ceremony last week.
