If you haven’t seen the video of the mom in a Chewbacca mask, you’re really missing out.
37-year-old Candance Payne broke the Internet and went viral after posting a video of her laughing so joyfully in a Chewbacca mask. The video has 140 million views, making it the most viewed video on Facebook Live since the platform launched.
On Monday, Payne sat down with James Corden and helped him get to work in a spin on Corden’s classic “Carpool Karaoke” sketch.
During the sketch, Payne is helping Corden drive to work but is holding him up because she is recording another Facebook Live video. A very annoyed Corden then points out that her mask sounds nothing like the real Chewbacca, prompting J.J. Abrams to come out of nowhere and disagree with Corden.
Abrams quickly pulls out his own mask and gives Payne some proper notes on Chewbacca acting. Corden then jumps on the bandwagon and the three of them have a full-on laughing fest, rivaling Payne’s original video. Watch the hilarious clip below.
Later in the show, Payne and Corden sat down to talk about the craziness of the video and why she recorded it in the first place.
“I’m a stay-at-home mom. I only had a few minutes before I had to go pick up my kids from school, and I wanted to prove to all my Facebook friends and family that that mask was mine,” Payne shared. “I knew the moment they saw it, they were gonna take it from me. I’m like, ‘I didn’t buy it for you, little kids. I love you, but this isn’t for you.’”
Corden also surprised Payne with a message from Peter Mayhew, the actor who plays Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise. The full message reads:
“Candace, you are an inspiration. Your attitude and lovely message really resonates and spreading the good word of Star Wars with a heart, well, it’s so much of why we do what we do.
“I’d love to get to meet you and your family in person. In two weeks we have Dallas Fan Expo in your own hometown and my hometown. I have acquired four VIP passes for you and your family to come with the show. I’ve also set up a private meet and greet so we can catch up while you’re there. All my love, Peter.”
To end the interview, Payne brought out her original Chewbacca mask, now signed by Abrams, and announced the commercial break with Corden in a matching mask. Check out the interview below.
