Check Out These Household Uses for Limes
Limes don’t always get the credit they deserve. While they are a staple bar item, they have many other great uses!
Not only do limes make for a tasty garnish in a drink, but they also are great for your health, household cleaning, and for beautifying! Check out what else they can do below!
Starting Your Day
Wake up to a glass of warm water with lime juice. The limes are full of antioxidants and vitamin C. Drinking water with lime is an “Ayurvedic tradition said to alkalize the body, fight inflammation, enhance digestion and promote weight loss,” shared Today.
Clean the Microwave
Fill a microwave safe bowl with half a cup of water, two tablespoons of baking soda, and half a lime to get your microwave looking clean and new! After combining all ingredients, cook on high for four minutes. When done, take a towel and wipe the microwave clean!
Get Rid of that Smell!
Garlic and onions can leave a nasty smell on your hands after cutting, but a lime will get that right off! To remove the unpleasant smell, just scrub your hands with lime juice.
A Little Fishy
Get rid of the fish smell with some limes! If the fish smell is hanging around after cooking, throw a lime down the garbage disposal to get rid of that ocean smell with a citrus treat!
Goodbye Ants!
Limes contain d-limonene, an extract that is toxic to ants. Next time you use a lime, keep the peel to create an ant pesticide. You can also spray the homemade pesticide by windows and doorways to help keep the little creature outs. Check out how to make your own lime pesticide here.
Keep Those Flowers Fresh
Adding just two teaspoons of lime juice and one teaspoon of bleach and sugar to a vase full of flowers will keep them fresh and blooming. The bleach helps kill the bacteria, while the sugar feeds them and the lime juice acidifies the water.
Tame the Frizz
If blowing out your hair is somewhat of a challenge, you may want to take advantage of this solution. Add this DIY coconut and lime hair mask to your hair to make your hair silky and smooth.
