How to Build a Pallet Garden

Wooden pallets are pretty common in factories and retail stores. In fact, about two billion pallets are used each year in the U.S. alone, according to Modern Farmer. That leaves many pallets at risk for just being thrown away. However, pallets can be used for much more than just shipping goods. They also make fabulous planters.
Not only do pallet planters look super modern and cute, they are also great for those strapped for space and are easy to make.
Preparations
The first step you need to take is finding a place in your yard for the planter to go. Make sure you can find a wall large enough for it to lean against that also gets plenty of sun. Then, go shopping for your pallet. You can ask businesses or builders if they have any pallets you can take for free – think garden and hardware stores, power equipment stores, or motorcycle shops. Find one that is in good condition with no nails sticking out. Modern Farmer recommends getting one with a lighter-colored wood as it probably hasn’t been pressure treated.
Instructions
In order to turn a pallet into a planter, you’ll need to add pockets for the soil to sit in. To do this, use weed cloth. You’ll also need a measuring tape, potting soil, a staple gun, scissors, and the plants you’re going to use.
To construct the planter, follow the tutorial here.
Put it in Place
Once your pallet garden is constructed, you’ll need to put it in place by anchoring it to the wall you chose. Keep in mind you don’t have to anchor it to a wall, but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
