Brain Surgeon Ben Carson Claims Gun Control Lead To Holocaust
Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is a brain surgeon. It’s safe to assume he has some intelligence. He’s an expert in neurosurgery, but that doesn’t mean he’s an expert in anything else.
And Carson proved that on Thursday during an interview about the Umpqua Community College shooting when he told the CNN host that gun control helped facilitate the rounding up and extermination of six million Jews.
“I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed… I’m telling you that there is a reason that these dictatorial people take the guns first,” said Carson.
The CNN host had asked Carson, “If there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time, would six million Jews have been slaughtered?”
The question was posed to Carson based on comments in Carson’s book, A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties, where Carson claimed, “Through a combination of removing guns and disseminating deceitful propaganda the Nazis were able to carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance.”
The idea that gun control somehow helped facilitate the Holocaust has been a popular talking-point among guns rights activists for years, but as historians have consistently pointed out, it’s simply not true.
“The notion that Hitler’s gun-control policy contributed to the Holocaust is historically inaccurate. … Personal firearms available to Germany’s Jews in 1938 could in no way have stopped the totalitarian power of the Nazi German state,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, director of the Anti-Defamation League, in response to Carson’s comments.
I mean, I took Calculus in college, but I don’t go around claiming weird derivatives theories all day long.
Unfortunately, gun control is not the only thing Carson seems to have trouble with grasping.
In an interview released on Wednesday, Carson did not seem to fully understand what the debt limit is.
But hey, he’s only polling second in the Republican presidential primary, so no worries, right?
