Dashcam Video Shows Student Juggling to Prove to Cops He’s Sober

College students will often try anything to prove sobriety to avoid getting a ticket after being pulled over for suspected drunk driving. Blayk Puckett’s case is a bit different than normal. For starters, he actually hadn’t done anything wrong. Beyond that, he was able to show off a skill that left even the cops impressed.

The University of Central Arkansas junior, after a night of studying, was driving home slowly last Friday due to issues with his car.

“I had a brake light out and so I’m driving very carefully, trying to be as careful as I can not to do anything wrong because I knew my brake light was out,” he said later, according to St. Louis television station KTVI.

However, Puckett may have been driving a bit too carefully, as his slow driving got him pulled over, according to sergeant Keith McKay.

“A lot of times, especially around a college campus, the later in the night it gets, the slower they go and especially if they almost hit a curb once it’s a typical indication they might be impaired,” McKay said.

After pulling over the student, McKay spoke to him for several moments to discern if he was under the influence or not. As seen in the video above, the conversation took a turn when Blayk Puckett revealed he was a magician and juggler.

“I knew I could prove I hadn’t been drinking — especially with juggling clubs in the back seat. It’s just more fun when you can juggle and have more fun with the officers than a standard traffic stop that’s boring and scary,” he said later.

Puckett juggled for the officer. The video of the incident has been posted to YouTube and numerous other websites since.

Looking back on the incident later, McKay said, “I try to make as much fun as I can but this was absolutely the most fun I’ve had any time I’m treated to that.”

While many people are praising both the officers and the student in this video, some people are questioning if drivers of color would receive the same treatment from law enforcement in the same situation. Minnesota driver Philando Castile, who is African American, was fatally shot at a traffic stop in 2016.
