Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Steal The Show on Post-Oscars ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
Nearly twenty years after Ben Affleck and Matt Damon surprisingly took home Oscar gold for penning Good Will Hunting, the duo once again stole part of Oscar night with a memorable appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Affleck, who kept a low-profile at the ceremony itself – perhaps due to the on-going public drama over his split with Jennifer Garner – appeared on Kimmel’s annual post Oscar show to promote the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where he plays the titular Dark Knight. But when he took the stage, he looked decidedly different.
Affleck arrived in what appeared to be a large “fat-suit.” After several minutes of banter between he and Kimmel, they unzipped the suit to reveal Matt Damon hiding inside the oversized coat to rapturous applause from the audience.
Playing off the “feud” between Damon and Kimmel that has become a staple gag of his show, the host swiftly had Damon – an Oscar nominee for his role in The Martian – “removed” by security.
After the initial Damon bit, Kimmel and Affleck moved on to the highly anticipated DC Comics team-up film, both referencing a special deleted scene from Batman v Superman that originally included Kimmel, but had to be “cut.”
Lucky for fans, Affleck saved the clip to share with the audience.
The “deleted scene” was revealed to be a segment that spliced Kimmel into the Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent meeting scene that was prominently displayed in the film’s first full-length trailer, which premiered on Kimmel back in December.
The hilarious bit, which also included co-stars Henry Cavill and Jesse Eisenberg, centered around Kimmel outing the characters’ secret identities. The scene eventually culminated in Cavill’s Superman tossing Kimmel to Mars, where he winds up stranded with Damon’s Martian character, much to the host’s chagrin.
Damon later made one final surprise appearance on the episode, as he was shown dejectedly standing outside Kimmel’s studio gates as the closing credits rolled.
