Naude Dreyer was driving on Paaltjies Beach in Namibia when he spotted a young male Benguela dolphin washed up on the shore.
He noticed the little guy was still moving, so the kayaking instructor scooped him up to put him back in the ocean.
The video of the male dolphin’s rescue has since gone viral with over eight million views.
“It’s not clear how he ended up on there in the first place,” the viral Facebook post says. “I was not very hopeful, but as soon as he got into water and realized where he was he took off like a bullet.”
He goes to say that later on he’ll “do a drive past” to make sure the dolphin hasn’t returned.
Dreyer told the Telegraph, “You never know why these guys are on the beach; they’ve been quite active in the area quite lately and I think they were playing just too close to the waves and a bigger wave came and pushed him out [of the water].”
