Opening gifts is usually the best part of Christmas, especially when it involves animals. However, one unlucky man from Georgia learned the hard way that cats tend to play by their own rules.
Andrew Woodard was enthusiastically opening one of his Christmas gifts under the tree when his cat decided it didn’t particularly like the festivities. As Woodard practically jumped up and down with joy after receiving a Playstation 4, the cat walked around his side and leaped onto his head, dragging him down.
Woodard’s friend Jessica Freeman caught the whole ordeal on film and posted it on Facebook.
“Y’all, this is what pure joy looks like. Also terror. Merry Christmas!” She wrote on Facebook.
The video and pictures have since gone viral with over 600,000 shares as of Wednesday, but not everybody was laughing at the video.
Many commenters wrote about possible animal abuse, and called into question the treatment of the cat. Freeman responded that the cat is in no way abused and lives in a good home.
“The cat lives in a good home. Plenty of pictures of him being spoiled. He’s a jerk. Seriously. This is not the only person he’s attacked. He wasn’t “provoked,” she wrote. “A grown up was acting overly excited as a joke and the cat walked across the room then back. He wasn’t (sic) “startled”. You can clearly see him walk up and calmly sit while planning his attack. Also, this is not my cat. No reason for me to lie. He is a jerk. Take your threats somewhere else. You can report me for animal abuse all you want. It’s. Not. Mine. And it’s not abused.”
Although this particular cat does not appear to be abused, there are some pets facing cruelty in other homes. Putting a stop to animal cruelty can be as easy as contacting an organization like We Tip and reporting instances of abuse.
