Most people when they come face to face with a 5,000-pound fish would quickly swim away. Luckily, this close encounter is through a computer screen – at least for us.

The Mola mola, or ocean sunfish, can weigh up to 5,000 pounds and grow to nearly 15 feet long. Because of their size, the Mola mola are slow movers – which might explain these divers braving such close proximity to the humongous beast.
Capturing the fish on camera was likely a once-in-a-lifetime chance, as the large fishes tend to live far out in the oceans away from any coastlines. Why this one veered toward the Portuguese coast is any body’s guess, but it’s clear from how popular the video has become, that people everywhere want “mora mora” of the Mola mola.
This isn’t the first time a Mola mola has been captured on film though. In August 2014, diver Erik van der Goot was swimming off the coast of Malta when he encountered one of these ginormous creatures.
