You’re about to go from devastated to happy in a matter of minutes.
In Costa Rica, the temperature was soaring when a dog rescuer was on the lookout for a stray she had seen several times in recent weeks. But as she searched for one dog, another fell into her lap.
“I kept on seeing a beautiful cream colored stray dog on the streets down in the Osa Peninsula – he looked like a Labrador – very skinny though…. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, especially after I stopped once and gave him some water… He was so shy…There was no chance that I could have caught him,” Tania Cappelluti wrote in a Facebook post.
But as the temperature kept climbing on a “boiling hot Sunday,” Cappelluti, along with two volunteers from Osa Peninsula Rescue & Adoptions, set out to find the cream lab, when, “All of a sudden we saw this little black girl sitting on the side of the dusty road in the middle of nowhere!”
Cappelluti recounted that as soon as she jumped out of her vehicle, the dehydrated pup “immediately fell on the ground and started crying” knowing instinctively the people were there to help.
Though covered in dirt and fleas, Cappelluti said the dog was the “sweetest soul.”
The famished dog could barely hold herself up, but Cappelluti and the other workers were able to get her some water and food, and eventually transported her to a temporary care home, called Finco Morpho. When there, it didn’t take long for the sweet pup’s life to take a complete 180.
The pup, now named Gaia, found a new home in Puerto Jimenez.
“She lives with a lovely lady from France in a beautiful, cool house and already knows how to give high fives,” wrote Cappelluti. “Stories like this make us soooo happy!”
Happy for the black pup, but Cappelluti knows her work is never finished.
“Still wondering what ever happened to the cream lab.”
Even though the cream lab is still out there, we’re saluting Cappelluti’s continued perseverance in helping strays find loving homes. Please SHARE her amazing story with your friends!
