Talk about a miracle!
Justice Lawson was driving with five other people on Interstate 30 in Texarkana, Arkansas when out of nowhere an 18-wheeler hit her car as it was changed lanes. The crash caused the airbag to throw her mother, Trina Johnson, into the middle of the road causing a very scary sight.
“I looked down and all I saw was blood on me. All I could say was ‘Momma, you’re still alive?’ I thought you were dead,'” Lawson recalled.
While Lawson dealt with her mother, Jakesia Colson, another passenger in the car, had her own moment of panic. After realizing her 8-month-old daughter, Bryce Hale, had been thrown from the car during the crash, Colson frantically began to look for her.
“I started running up and down the highway looking everywhere for her, calling her name,” Colson said. “I didn’t hear a baby crying, no baby screaming, nothing. I panicked. I thought she was gone. It was the worst 15 minutes of my life trying to look for her.”
Luckily, with the help of some firefighters, Hale was found about 25-feet away from the crash in a drainage gate. The 8-month-old survived the wreck and barely had a scratch on her.
“I know it was a miracle,” said Colson. “The way they had to pull her out of the drain. They couldn’t just pull her out. They had to turn her head a certain way and turn her body a certain way to get her out. She was just sitting there looking up waiting for them to come get her.”
Out of the remaining passengers in the car, Johnson is the only one still in the hospital.
“I’m happy to be alive,” Hale’s aunt, Shameerah Colson, said. “At night time, I sit and cry because I think I could have been dead. My niece could have been dead. My sister could have been dead. My momma could have been planning three funerals but she’s not because we are all alive.”
The 18-wheeler who caused the car crash has been charged with an “improper and unsafe lane change,” explained KSLA News. During the investigation, officials also found that the car seat was not properly installed in the car, making the outcome of the crash even more sensational.
“I was just overwhelmed with joy,” said Colson. “I started crying and thanking God for sparing my baby, for sparing us, for not taking my angel away from me. She is my miracle baby.”
