Most people dream of visiting the world’s seven wonders at least once in their lifetime, but one woman just accomplished the feat in 13 days following a string of harrowing experiences that left her reeling.
San Francisco-based filmmaker Megan Sullivan was living a fairly normal life as of last year until not one, but three, accidents took a toll on her well-being.
“”I fell 50-feet climbing in Yosemite, got hit by a car and then diagnosed with skin cancer, all in one month,” wrote Sullivan on her website.
While the mountain fall and being hit while riding her Vespa were bad enough, it was the skin cancer diagnosis that really put her over the edge.
“In three weeks time I was handed the trifecta of bad luck,” Sullivan told Buzzfeed.
The young filmmaker immediately treated the skin cancer surgically, but those brushes with death opened Sullivan’s eyes that there was still so much she wanted to do.
“Two weeks later, I decided to see the Seven New Wonders of the world in just 13 days with a new outlook on life: to live more now.”
After the trip, Sullivan said she’s been “inundated with questions” about her trip about how she achieved the feat, ranging from the logistics of travel, to the budget, to her own mental well-being.
What emerged was “The Dirtbag’s Guide to How to Travel to the 7 Wonders of the World in 13 Days.”
“I have a very high-demanding job which fortunately pays enough for me to be able to travel,” Sullivan told Buzzfeed. “A massive misconception is that you have to be Bill Gates to travel the world… False.”
“Decreasing useless spending on your day-to-day will allow you to not only save for any trip that you desire; but, it will empower you to get rid of a lot of waste in your life,” she continued.
Take a world tour with Sullivan on her trip that entailed 12 countries and 15 flights, for a total of 28,211 miles in less than two weeks. Despite the accidents, Sullivan isn’t letting those stop her from the things she loves.
