2015 Grammy Nominations: Kendrick Lamar Leads With Eleven Nominations
The 58th annual Grammy Awards nominations were announced Monday morning with Kendrick Lamar topping the list with 11 nominations. Taylor Swift and the Weeknd followed close behind with seven nominations each.
Lamar is up for Album of the Year for To Pimp a Butterfly, as well as Song of the Year for “Alright.” Lamar will also compete for Best Rap Album for Butterfly, Rap Performance for “Alright,” Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Bad Blood” with Swift, and Dance Recording “Never Catch Me” with Flying Lotus. He’s nominated twice for both Best Rap Song with “Alright,” and for co-writing Kanye West’s “All Day,” as well as Best Music Video for “Alright” and “Bad Blood.”
Swift was able to walk away with a nomination in the three major categories. Her album, 1989, took spots for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year with “Blank Space.”
The Weeknd received seven nominations for his album Beauty Behind the Madness, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for his major hit “Can’t Feel My Face.”
While the pros dominated the majority of the nominations this year, many newcomers including Tori Kelly, James Bay, and Sam Hunt walked away with several nominations.
Regardless of previous nominations, many stars were still humbled by the honor and were quick to take to social media to express their gratitude and excitement. Singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran was the first to reveal his reaction to his fans sharing “”I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you,” reported EOnline. The singer walked away with three nominations this year for Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
